Now more than ever it is crucial for women to lead the way in repairing the world.

Whether that means discovering the next cure for cancer; innovating renewable energy solutions; negotiating international peace treaties; or leading a nation - public policy

guides every aspect of our lives. GirlGov was created to ensure that young women

will be the leaders shaping those policies to create a better future.

How we're different.

About

GGSLA is an opportunity to spend two weeks of your summer learning how to make a HUGE difference in your community, meet other passionate young women in your city, and have a ton of FUN all at once!

This year the Women and Girls Foundation has teamed up with the University of Pittsburgh Honors College to create the GirlGov Leadership Summer Academy to serve girls of excellence in our area who are interested in learning more about civics, activism, and their own leadership potential. The program will take place for two weeks this summer, July 6 – July 17th, on the University of Pittsburgh campus.

The GirlGov Summer Leadership Academy is a project of the Women and Girls Foundation (WGF), a non-profit organization working to break down barriers so that every girl can rise and every woman can soar.  Over the last ten years, WGF has served over one thousand girls through their school-year based GirlGov program which currently serves girls in 7 counties and over 60 schools. But now it is time to take it to the next level…..

From July 6 – July 17th   Girls will Take Over the City!

The GGSLA program includes three core learning components: advocacy and leadership curriculum taught in the college classroom; professional and networking skills learned through an internship at a local elected official’s office; and the opportunity to put these learnings into practice by developing a social action project to bring back to their school and community. All GGSLA participants will intern at the City-County buildings in Downtown, Pittsburgh.

GirlGov Summer Leadership Academy is designed for young women who have the capacity and curiosity to dedicate themselves to a two-week college classroom experience, the workplace environment at city hall, and who would like to change the world, all while building community and having fun!
